Was re-reminded of the Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, designed by Philip Johnson in a very -er- open and exposed design that is a bit alarming due to being entirely glass walls and yet is also strikingly beautiful and unique - and I cannot wait for May so I can finally get to see it (since Johnson and my grandfather had a famous long-running feud as to what constitutes "good" and "lastingly tasteful" design).

Your grandfather was quite a guy eh. How well were you able to get to know him? You might be interested in "Roger Scruton presents a provocative essay on the importance of beauty in the arts and in our lives, making a case for restoring it to the centre of our civilisation." It's a series of six You Tubes, well worth the time I think.

O/T. A while ago we had a discussion on gays adopting in which I probably came across as a bit Neandethalic but then I'm a conservative! Anyway as an example of the absurdity it can lead to by people getting a little carried away by their to them moral rectitude, see this and weep.

More O/T! The quote at left, There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way. I know maybe you aren't supposed to look too far into short quotations, but the 'only one' kind of jars a bit. There is success in people who are unable for various reasons to 'live their lives in their own way', but accept it and live the way they can without question, self pity, going into therapy or whatever, that is success too. Think Susan Boyle for an example.
